down

the
president
of
the
Shiromani
Akali
Dal
(SAD).
The
announcement
was
made
on
Saturday
via
a
tweet
by
former
Punjab
Education
Minister
Daljit
S.
Cheema.
Badal
tendered
his
resignation
to
facilitate
the
upcoming
elections,
reported
India
Today.

of
the
party
today
to
pave
the
way
for
the
election
of
new
President,” Cheema
tweeted.
The
post
further
stated,
“He
thanked
all
the
party
leaders
&
workers
for
expressing
confidence
in
his
leadership
and
extending
wholehearted
support
&
cooperation
throughout
the
tenure.”
Balwinder
Singh
Bhundar,
president
of
the
Akali
Dal
Working
Committee,
has
convened
an
emergency
meeting
of
the
committee
at
12
pm
on
Monday
at
the
party
headquarters
in
Chandigarh
to
decide
the
next
steps.
It
should
be
noted
that
elections
for
the
post
of
president,
office
bearers,
and
working
committee
members
of
the
Akali
Dal
are
scheduled
to
take
place
on
December
14.
