Fawad Chaudhry, a former Pakistani minister from Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, paid tribute to Manmohan Singh, the former Indian prime minister, following his demise in New Delhi’s AIIMS hospital.

“It is truly saddening to hear about the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh. The economic stability India enjoys today is largely due to his visionary policies. Born in Gah village of Jhelum, which now falls in Chakwal, Punjab (Pakistan), Dr. Singh, a son of Jhelum, remains an enduring inspiration for the people of this region,” Chaudhry said in a post on X.
Manmohan Singh, the architect of India’s economic reforms, died in Delhi on Thursday night. He was 92.
Singh’s death was announced by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, where he was admitted in the Emergency ward at around 8.30 PM in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, tributes for the visionary economist who transformed the Indian economy poured in from across the globe.
Singaporean envoy to India Simon Wong said he was deeply saddened by the passing of the former prime minister.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Manmohan Singh Ji, a statesman whose wisdom and leadership shaped India’s growth. His strong support of India-Singapore relations, as both FM and PM, played a pivotal role in developing our bilateral relations,” Wong said in a tweet.
Former Maldives minister Abdullah Shahid also credited Manmohan Singh for getting elections done in Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives. Speaking to News18, Shahid said during Manmohan Singh’s tenure the first democratically-elected government was formed in Maldives and Dr. Singh was the first leader to address the newly formed Maldivian parliament, also known as the majlis.
