Questions are arising as to who will the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) target after it killed two of the most powerful leaders in the Middle East within a span of 58 days. An Israeli airstrike in Southern Beirut killed Hassan Nasrallah on Friday whereas Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on July 31. Social media was rife that the IDF would next target Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Sensing his life is in danger, Iran on Saturday shifted Khamenei to an undisclosed secure location inside the country with heightened security measures in place. Israel said that it can reach anywhere in the world in its fight against terror groups and nations supporting them.

Who is Ayatollah Khamenei?

Ayatollah Khamenei, now 85 years old and Iran’s Supreme Leader since 1989, has long provided full support to militant groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas. On Saturday afternoon, following an Israeli strike on Lebanon, Khamenei’s X account released a statement declaring, “All the Resistance forces in the region stand with Hezbollah. The Resistance forces will shape this region’s future, led by the honorable Hezbollah.”

Amid Israel’s ongoing “New Order” operation aimed at neutralizing terrorist leaders, reports emerged that Khamenei had been relocated to a secure facility. The Israeli military, led by Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, emphasized that they are far from exhausting their capabilities, asserting, “Anyone who threatens Israel’s citizens, whether in the north, south, or beyond, will face consequences.”
