Prime
Minister
Narendra
Modi
opened
the
Vizhinjam
International
Seaport
in
Thiruvananthapuram
on
Friday,
marking
a
significant
milestone
for
India’s
maritime
infrastructure.
This
nation’s
first
completely
automated
deep-sea
port,
built
by
the
Adani
Group,
is
expected
to
improve
India’s
reputation
in
international
marine
trade.

After
Decades
of
Waiting,
a
Significant
Advancement

Since
its
inception
almost
thirty
years
ago,
the
Vizhinjam
project
has
been
continually
derailed
by
political
and
practical
obstacles.
The
port’s
successful
construction
and
current
state
of
operation
represent
a
major
advancement
for
Kerala
and
the
Indian
shipping
sector
overall.

Advantages
of
Strategic
Location
and
Cost

The
port,
which
was
constructed
at
an
estimated
cost
of
₹8,867
crore,
has
a
significant
geographic
advantage
due
to
its
proximity
to
important
international
trade
lanes.
This
puts
it
in
a
position
to
lessen
India’s
dependency
on
international
ports
for
cargo
transshipment,
such
Singapore
and
Colombo.
It
is
anticipated
that
the
facility
will
improve
maritime
logistics
efficiency
and
reduce
transportation
costs.

Government-Industry
Collaboration

The
Kerala
government
and
Adani
Ports
and
Special
Economic
Zone
Ltd
(APSEZ),
the
biggest
private
port
operator
in
India
and
a
significant
asset
in
the
Adani
Group’s
portfolio,
entered
into
a
public-private
collaboration
to
develop
Vizhinjam.

“Moment
of
Destiny” is
Celebrated
by
Gautam
Adani

Gautam
Adani
posted
a
statement
on
social
media
shortly
after
the
ceremony,
describing
it
as
a
time
when
“history,
destiny,
and
possibility
came
together.”
“We
are
pleased
to
have
constructed
the
first
deep-sea
automated
port
in
India.
a
hub
for
transshipment
in
the
future.
This
is
the
result
of
collaboration,
fortitude,
and
vision.
He
expressed
gratitude
to
CM
@pinarayivijayan
and
PM
@narendramodi
for
their
assistance.

Today, at Vizhinjam, history, destiny and possibility came together as a 30-year-old dream of Kerala became India’s gateway to the world.

PM
Modi’s
Jovial
Remark
Makes
People
Laugh

Prime
Minister
Modi
made
a
light-hearted
comment
at
the
ceremony
that
caused
the
audience
to
applaud.
“I
went
to
the
harbour
just
now.
However,
when
Gujaratis
find
out
that
Gautam
Adani
constructed
such
a
magnificent
port
in
Kerala…
He
has
spent
thirty
years
working
on
ports
in
Gujarat.
However,
he
has
never
constructed
a
port
like
this.
He
should
therefore
be
prepared
to
deal
with
Gujaratis’
ire,” he
joked.

Operational
Preparedness
and

Despite
Friday’s
official
inauguration,
the
port
had
previously
been
granted
commercial
authorisation
in
December
2023
after
successful
test
runs.
According
to
experts,
the
port
is
anticipated
to
draw
international
shipping
lines,
generate
jobs
locally,
