Kalyan Bainsla, the main accused in the Gurugram bike crash case, was arrested in Rajasthan on Tuesday, hours after the police added an attempt-to-murder charge to the case.
Gurugram resident Kalyan Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan after police added an attempt-to-murder charge related to allegedly hitting biker Sia with his car on Golf Course Road. Bainsla claims the Sunday incident was accidental, contradicting Sia’s account of a deliberate collision.
Bainsla is accused of hitting a woman biker, identified as Sia, with his car on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road. A video of the incident and Sia’s account of what happened later spread widely on social media.
Police Add Attempt-To-Murder Charge
The Gurugram Police had registered an FIR on Monday under Sections 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Section 125 deals with an act that puts another person’s life or safety at risk, while Section 281 deals with rash driving. The police later added Section 109 of the BNS, which relates to an attempt to murder.
The police took suo motu action after Sia’s video went viral. Bainsla was later arrested in Rajasthan.
What Happened On Golf Course Road
According to Sia, she was riding her Aprilia sportbike with a group of riders early Sunday when a white Maruti Ciaz came close to her.
She alleged that the driver followed her and repeatedly asked her to stop. Sia also claimed that the people inside the car were drunk.
She said her friend tried to stop the car from getting close to her, but the vehicle eventually hit her bike.
Bainsla Says Crash Was Accidental
Bainsla has denied intentionally hitting Sia. According to news agency ANI, he said he was travelling with his family and left the spot because he feared that a mob would attack them.
“I was travelling with my family. I didn’t make any gestures at the young woman; I simply asked her to ride her bike slowly,” Bainsla said.
He claimed he lost control of the car near a U-turn when Sia was turning. “It was my fault; I admit it,” he said.
Sia and her father, however, have continued to say that the collision was deliberate. Sia also questioned why Bainsla did not stop to check on her after the crash.
Investigation Continues After Arrest
Bainsla’s lawyer has also blamed Sia for the incident, claiming she was riding at 140-170 kmph. The lawyer said the people inside the car left because they feared “lynching”.
Sia’s family has demanded strict action. Her brother told ANI that she was going through something similar to “trauma” after the incident. He also claimed there were “four drunk people” in the car.
