Team Canada confirmed the Mark Mcmorris crash incident in a brief statement, saying, “Canadian Olympic Committee and Canada Snowboard staff are attending to [McMorris]. We will provide more information as it becomes available.” No further details about the extent of his injuries were immediately released.
The Canadian snowboard team also shared news of the injury on Instagram. Some users on social media claimed the team’s Instagram post initially included the words “Mark’s okay,” but that the line was later removed.
McMorris is no stranger to serious injuries. In 2017, he survived a life-threatening backcountry crash and has competed since with a rod in his leg, a plate in his arm, and another in his jaw. ‘I almost died,’ he posted on social media at that time.
Now 32, McMorris recently secured his 25th Winter X Games medal and has won three Olympic slopestyle bronze medals across previous Games.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics officially begin with an opening ceremony on February 6. Canadian curlers have already started competition, opening their mixed doubles campaign with a victory.
Who is Mark McMorris
Mark McMorris is a Canadian professional snowboarder and one of the most decorated athletes in the sport’s history. A three-time Olympic bronze medalist, he has won 24 Winter X Games medals, more than any snowboarder, along with four US Open titles. McMorris made history in 2011 as the first rider to land a backside triple cork 1440 and is a two-time Rider of the Year. Despite multiple serious injuries, he has consistently returned to top form, a journey documented in the film Unbroken: The Snowboard Life of Mark McMorris.
