Pakistan is so dependant on India that now they have urged India’s help. A protest call from Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir has enlarged their appeal for solidarity across J&k , Ladakh and the diaspora as the supply of the food has been restricted to weaken the rights campaign in the region.

A senior associated with the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee, Sardar Aman Khan had urged the people of Srinagar, Baramulla, Poonch, Mendhar, Rajouri, Jammu, Ladakh, Kargil and Gilgit-Baltistan to support demonstrations planned for July 5.

A video on social media has been circulated widely amid rising tensions. It is the Joint Awami Action Committee at the centre of the protest over civil rights, freedoms and essential supplies. Pakistani authorities have not publicly accepted the allegations made by the protesters.

JAAC appeal seeks wider support for July 5 protests

In the video one can see that Sardar Aman Khan is stating that the residents of PoJK were under severe pressure of demanding basic rights and also appealed the people across Jammu and Kashmir to come out and raise their voice against what he described as cruelty and injustice.

“Through this message, I am addressing the people of the Kashmir Valley, specifically the people of Srinagar. To the people of Baramulla, and all the surrounding districts. To the people of Poonch, and the people of Mendhar. We are addressing the people of Rajouri, Jammu, Ladakh, Kargil, Gilgit Baltistan, and the people across the entire state,” he said, according to ANI.

He added, “We have organized a protest on July 5th, and we need the support of all of you. Certainly, you must come out, speak up for our rights, and raise your voice against this cruelty and injustice.”

The July 5 mobilisation is politically significant because the date has usually been used by Pakistan to project support for Kashmir. Activists opposed to Islamabad’s control over PoJK now say the day will be used to highlight alleged repression by Pakistani authorities in the territory.

Khan’s latest appeal led to the arrest of the activists. The JAAC on June 30th criticised the Pakistani authorities after the opposition delegation were barred to enter PoJK. This was marked as an example of political supression.

The committee stated that the protest will continue untill their demands are not addressed.

    International rights concerns add pressure

It has not only caused an unrest but the news has also reached outside the PoJK. There was a protest held by National Anti-Terrorism Front India outside the United Nations office on July 2 demanding the international intervention due to the situation and rights violation in the region.

The decision by the government in connection with the upcoming elections has also been criticized by Amnesty International as a violation of human rights in the area. Besides, Amnesty International strongly condemns the proscription of the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which is an attack on the right to association and peaceful political action.

PoJK activist Amjad Ayub Mirza alleged that the situation worsened after the detention of Shaukat Nawaz Mir, the leader of JAAC. More than 600 workers and activists from the committee have been detained since then, according to him.

“The situation in Pakistani-occupied Jammu and Kashmir is deteriorating further by the hour. Since the arrest of the leader of Joint Awami Action Committee Shaukat Nawaz Mir, till now more than 600 workers and activists of the committee have been arrested,” said Mirza.
