In a heart-wrenching moment, a woman died by suicide after being devastated by the death of her beloved pet cat in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha.
The 32-year-old woman, identified as Pooja, kept the mortal remains of her pet with her for two days, hoping it would come back to life. After her hopes were shattered and being unable to cope with the loss, she hanged herself at her home, a report by NDTV said.
According to the family members, Pooja, a resident of Amroha’s Hasanpur, got married to a man in Delhi around eight years ago. However, she got divorced after two years, and had been living with her mother ever since, the report added.
They described how deeply Pooja loved her cat and couldn’t envision a life without it.
To cope up with the loneliness, Pooja adopted a pet cat. The relatives said that Pooja had been caring for the cat for a considerable time, and her entire life revolved around her feline companion.
However, her pet died on Thursday. When her mother suggested burying the animal, Pooja refused, insisting that it would “return to life”.
Two days later on Saturday, locked herself in her room on the third floor of their house. When Her mother went to check on her daughter, she found Pooja hanging from the ceiling fan, with the dead cat lying nearby.
Upon receiving information about the suicide, police promptly arrived at the scene. Authorities took possession of the deceased’s body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Police have initiated an investigation into the case.
