According to Iranian sources, the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to travel to New Delhi in September to attend the 18th BRICS Summit.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi in September 2026, hosted by India. Iran joined BRICS as a full member in 2024, and Pezeshkian previously met Indian PM Modi in October 2024.
This is a sensitive time when his visit is announced as West Asia and Iran seek greater diplomatic engagement with countries such as India.
India is hosting the BRICS Summit in 2026 after taking over the group’s chairship from Brazil at the beginning of the year. The summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi in September.
Pezeshkian’s expected visit is significant for India-Iran ties as well as for the wider BRICS grouping, which has expanded in recent years and now includes 11 full members.

India To Host 18th BRICS Summit
This is for the fourth time that India will be hosting the BRICS Summit in 2026 and this time the theme for India’s chairmanship will be “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.”
These four topics will be used to discuss issues of economic cooperation, technology, sustainable development, global governance and many others facing the BRICS nations. It has been said that the Indian government intends to use a people-centered and practical cooperation strategy. The topics of the 2026 BRICS summit will include geopolitics and economics issues such as global governance reform, energy security, artificial intelligence, climate change, food security and supply chain resilience.
Pezeshkian And PM Modi Have Met Before
It must be noted that Pezeshkian’s visit will be his second major BRICS related engagement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024. Their discussions focused on India-Iran bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments.
The proposed visit to New Delhi could provide another opportunity for the two sides to discuss connectivity, trade, regional security and the situation in West Asia.
Iran became a full member of BRICS in 2024, along with Egypt, Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
Why Pezeshkian’s India Visit Matters
The Iranian president’s proposed visit comes at a time when India is trying to strengthen its role as a diplomatic bridge on major international issues.
New Delhi maintains relationships with countries that do not always share the same political positions, including Iran, Russia, the United States, Israel and Gulf countries.
Pezeshkian’s presence at the BRICS Summit could therefore give India another opportunity to engage directly with Tehran while also discussing broader regional concerns.
The visit could also highlight BRICS’ growing role as a forum where countries with different political interests can discuss global and regional challenges.
