Ghaziabad Police on Tuesday arrested the chief of Hindu Raksha Dal (HRD), Bhupendra alias Pinki Chaudhary, along with his son, Harsh, in connection with the distribution of weapons at the outfit’s office in Shalimar Garden colony last week.

According to police, the incident took place on December 29, when members of the Hindu Raksha Dal allegedly distributed swords and other weapons near their office in the Shalimar Garden X-2 area. The group reportedly claimed that the weapons were meant for “self-defence” in case a situation similar to that in Bangladesh occurred in India.

Police said they had received information about the distribution of weapons on December 29 and immediately began the probe.

A case was registered against 40 people at the Shalimar Garden police station after a video showing the incident spread widely on social media platforms. Police said the video showed several people holding swords, raising provocative slogans and taking part in aggressive demonstrations.

The case was registered under sections 191(2) (guilty of rioting), 191(3) (guilty of rioting, being armed with a deadly weapon or with anything which, used as a weapon of offence, is likely to cause death), 127(2) (wrongful confinement) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

Last week, police arrested 10 members of the outfit in connection with the case. Those arrested have been identified as Kapil Kumar, Shyam Prasad, Arun Jain, Rampal, Amit Singh, Amit Kumar, Amit Arora, Mohit Kumar, Devendra Baghel and Ujala Singh. Police also recovered eight swords from them.

During questioning, the arrested men told police that they had gathered at the office on Chaudhary’s instructions and that the swords were arranged by him.

    What’s In The Video?

Viral videos on social media showed members of the right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal openly distributing swords and axes to local people. The group claimed the weapons were for “self-defence” amid concerns over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. The footage showed the accused waving weapons aggressively, raising anti-Muslim slogans and issuing threats, including calls for retaliation and references to recent violence in Bangladesh.

Chaudhary had earlier shared a video in which he said that 250 weapons have been distributed among people to face Muslims who “attack Hindu families and molest Hindu girls and women”.

“Hindus must be well-equipped with weapons to fight Muslims. Hindu Raksha Dal will help the Hindu community. These days, the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh is very miserable. Hindus are being killed there. We will not let the condition of Hindus become like that of Hindus in Bangladesh,” he had said in the video.
