A large-scale enforcement drive against illegal constructions and unauthorised commercial activities in Gurugram’s DLF Phase-3 has left several families scrambling for accommodation after authorities sealed multiple residential and commercial properties found to be violating building norms.

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has intensified its crackdown in DLF Phase-3 following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, targeting properties that were allegedly converted for commercial use or constructed in violation of approved building plans.

As part of the ongoing drive, authorities have sealed hundreds of paying guest (PG) rooms, commercial establishments, restaurants, gyms and other units operating from residential properties. Officials said the action is aimed at restoring land-use norms and curbing unauthorised commercialisation in residential neighbourhoods.

One of the most significant impacts of the drive has been on tenants residing in illegally modified buildings. According to reports, around 40 families were left homeless after a residential complex in the S Block area was sealed by authorities. The building, originally approved for a limited number of dwelling units, had allegedly been subdivided into multiple apartments in violation of regulations.

The enforcement campaign began earlier this week and has expanded rapidly. Officials have reported sealing an unauthorised hotel, a hospital, dozens of PG accommodations and commercial establishments operating from residential plots. In one case, authorities discovered a complex with 128 illegally operated PG rooms, along with a gym and restaurant functioning within the same premises.

The crackdown follows a broader survey that identified thousands of properties across DLF Phases 1 to 5 for alleged violations, including illegal extensions, encroachments, misuse of stilt parking areas and commercial activities being run from residential buildings.

Authorities have maintained that the action is necessary to ensure compliance with planning regulations, improve safety standards and reduce pressure on civic infrastructure. However, the drive has also triggered concerns among tenants and residents who say they received little time to make alternative housing arrangements.

With enforcement operations continuing, officials have indicated that similar action may be taken against other violating properties across Gurugram’s DLF colonies in the coming weeks.
